Hud
Hud
A powerful, emotionally charged drama with Paul Newman as the ill-disposed and irresponsible son of Texas rancher Melvyn Douglas, caught between the traditional ideals of his father and the lack of principles in the New West. Oscars went to Douglas, Patricia Neal, and cinematographer James Wong Howe; directed by Martin Ritt. 111 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English.

Based on a Larry McMurtry novel, this Martin Ritt film was a testament to the sex appeal of the young Paul Newman. Playing the title character–a total rotter who, by the end of the film, has double-crossed or screwed over everyone he knows, including his hard-working father and brother–Newman turns him into an intriguing antihero. Things are tough on the ranch and Hud’s dad (Melvyn Douglas) needs help, but Hud is too busy looking out for number one, even as things fall apart. And guess who’s going to land on his feet? Beautiful black-and-white cinematography by James Wong Howe won an Oscar, as did performances by Douglas and Patricia Neal. –Marshall Fine

OpenEmu - Grid View - Info Popover HUD (Black)
Info Popover HUD’s baby!

Please note this is not finished. I need to place two UX related things on this image such as rating a game and viewing the PDF game manual.

So, the thinking here is, rather than clicking a button to take the user to a new page or screen in the UI. The user simply hovers over the selected game and up pops this popover.

Different tabs are present to get all kinds of ‘information’ about the game.

A lot of this information can be automatically sourced from a online game database. Working in the same manner as ‘TheMovieDB.org’ relates to and works in a symbiotic relationship with various media centers like XBMC and Plex.

So, back to the popover…

INFO: Well, the game ‘Overview’ or description and some other information like release year etc under ‘Credits’.

SAVES: Here is where your save games and game freezes go.

IMAGES: Screenshots the user has taken of the game (e.g. Hey look I completed the game *take picture*). Also, can link to an online database to pull in other screenshots from a community of users, browse alternative box art, wallpapers and Fan Art.

VIDEO: Works in the same way as screenshots. Some emulators allow you to record your game as you play (although I think this could be coded to record all and any games in OSX?). In this section/tab you can find your own personal recordings, browse the communities uploads, walkthrough videos and fun related videos (e.g. auto-mario type fun things).

MORE: Here I thought some other related stuff could be placed. FAQ’s, Walkthrough PDF’s/documents and maybe even merchandising that can be bought through amazon like game soundtracks etc.

At a product edu-promotion for the Second Life Link applicaton for Facebook. Tried leaving the HUD/ profile balloons on as well as interface on when taking snapshot to see if I felt it gave a better idea of what being in the application is like for users.
